THE FOUNDER-ACHARYA
SRILA PRABHUPADA

THE STORY OF
SRILA PRABHUPADA

The Spiritual Master

Srila Prabhupada was born in Calcutta in 1896, where he first met his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami, in 1922.

As the founder of the International
Society for Krishna Consciousness,
Srila Prabhupada occupies a very
special position.

The GBC, the governing council of ISKCON, has released the following document in this regard:

Srila Prabhupada's most significant contribution, however, has been his books. Highly respected in academic circles for their authenticity, depth and clarity, they are used as teaching tools in numerous colleges and universities.

His writings have been translated into over 80 languages to date. Thus, the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, established in 1972 to publish the works of Srila Prabhupada, is now the largest publisher in the field of Indian religious and philosophical books.
